ARESYS's staff

DAVIDE D'ARIA

Davide D’Aria graduated in 2000 in Telecommunication Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, with a thesis on SAR interferometry. In 2000 and 2002, he joined the SAR processing group within the Electronic and Information Department of Politecnico di Milano, where he worked on SAR focusing techniques, SAR-SPOT super-resolution algorithm definition and bistatic SAR processing. He is the co-founder and CEO of ARESYS srl, a Politecnico di Milano spin-off company, founded in 2003. In Aresys he is currently coordinating ESA projects concerning radar data processing, prototype processor development, and industrial processor maintenance, for present and future radar-based missions ( ENVISAT, PALSAR, CRYOSAT-2, GMES Sentinel-1). He is also involved in commercial software development and maintenance for private remote sensing companies as Telerilevamento Europa srl and the Swiss company SARMAP SA. His current research interests concern Scan-SAR and TOPSAR processing and interferometry, advanced SAR system focusing and active antenna calibration. He co-authored several international scientific publications. In May 2004, he won the "Best Paper Award" at EUSAR conference, presenting a paper about bistatic SAR focusing, co-authored with prof. Andrea Monti Guarnieri and prof. Fabio Rocca from Politecnico di Milano.

ARESYS co-founder and CEO.

PAOLO MAZZUCCHELLI

Paolo Mazzucchelli was born in Gallarate on 4th October 1972. On 8th April 1998, he received the Telecommunication Engineering graduation from Politecnico di Milano. In 2002 he received the Telecommunication and Comunication Engineering Ph.D. Since 2002 he has been carrying on research activities within the Electronic and Information Department of Politecnico di Milano, where he worked on wave fields interpolation, N-dimensional domains aliasing and seismic signals processing. He has written several papers and presented them at the most important geophisical international congresses. He worked with CGG (Compagnie Générale de Géophysique) on an apllied geophisical project and with ENI-Agip division, on algorithm development and engineering in the field of oil prospection.

ARESYS co-founder.

ANDREA MONTI GUARNIERI

Andrea Monti Guarnieri (Home) graduated in electronic engineering with M.Sc cum laude in 1988, at Politecnico di Milano, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His professional and academic experience is targeted in Digital and Statistical Signal Processing, Telecommunications and Synthetic Aperture Radar systems. His present and past courses include: Signal Theory, Digital Signal Processing, Algorithms and Circuits for Telecommunications, RADAR systems and localization. He has twenty years of professional activities in SAR processing, with specific interest in processing, interferometry and system design. Prof. Monti Guarnieri co-authored about 100 scientific publications, mostly in the field of Synthetic Aperture Radar, and was awarded the "Symposium Paper Award" (SPOTLIGHT SAR focusing), IGARSS '89, and the "Best Paper Award" (bistatic SAR processing), at EUSAR 2004. He is also the reviewer of several journals in remote sensing, signal processing, image processing and antennas and propagations and is in the technical board of several conferences dedicated to SAR and RADAR. Since 1989Prof. Monti Guarnieri has been cooperating with the European Space Agency in the system design and calibration /validation for systems like ERS, ENVISAT and the new generation of SENTINEL-GMES. He is a member of the Quality Working Group for the ENVISAT mission, and he coordinates, at Politecnico di Milano, the SAR-LAB, qualified by ESA as Expert Support Laboratories.

ARESYS co-founder and president.

FABIO ROCCA

Politecnico di Milano's full professor (1975). His main activity fields are: synthetic aperture radarsystems project and data processing, seismic data processing for oil prospection applications, digital telecomunication signal processing. He is member of TerraSAR - L scientific group ofEuropean Space Agency (ESA). He is coordinating for ESA the Expert Support Laboratory for the support andorganisation of scientific activities on ENVISAT satellite. He is a scientific council member of the"Institut Francais du Petrole" in Paris and of the "Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale"in Trieste. He is Associate Editor of "Journal of Seismic Exploration". In 1995 he received theItalgas Telecomunication Award and obtained in 1999 the Rhein Foundation Award, RFT for Technologies, working on television signal coding with movement compensation (together with L. Chiariglione - MPEG signal coding development). In 2001 he graduated at Institut Polytechnique de Lorraine in Nancy receiving the Geophisic Honoris Causa.
