Description

ARESYS is a R&D oriented company with almost 20 years of history in the field of Remote Sensing and Sensor Networks Solutions. We serve the Space, Defense, Oil&Gas and Automation markets. In our Earth Observation and Sensors Business Units we are developing state-of-art software solutions for Earth Observation Optical applications. The candidate will become a specialist of optical images and data processing, working on real-life data, proposing and prototyping efficient, robust and/or innovative and smart processing algorithms to be then developed in operational environment. Our ideal candidate has a proven attitude to analyse complex remote sensing data problems, to identify the most suitable solution through its background and state-of-art literature research and to accurately implement and validate the solutions.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

The successful candidate may be involved or contribute in some or all of the following activities:

  • to analyse Earth Observation optical remote sensing scenarios, users/customers requirements and technical documentation;
  • to design scientific algorithms/procedures and to develop prototypes to process data acquired by different types of optical instruments (e.g. VNIR, SWIR, PAN/Multi/Hyperspectral, VHR/HR/MR aerial/satellite borne optical instruments) from raw/calibrated data to geophysical information, including both radiometric and geometric data processing;
  • to develop and assess the accuracy and performances of the proposed algorithms both on real and simulated data using both benchmarking analyses and ad hoc SW prototypes;
  • to analyse and assess the quality of the optical data products, through definition of proper scientific KPIs;
  • to define and execute proper algorithms and products validation processes, including, without limiting, comparison with similar products and in situ data;
  • to design a proper software solution to be used as input for the next industrialisation part and to drive operational SW development and tests;
  • to contribute to/address SW engineering process and technical documentation drafting.
  • to support and attend technical and progress meetings with industrial partners and/or end-users/customers

Specific skills:

  • Proven (well documented) skills in Optical remote sensing of the environment (Earth Observation), Radiative Transfer of the Atmosphere, Optical data geometric and radiometric processing;
  • Sound knowledge of scientific prototyping environments (e.g. Matlab, Python, IDL, R, Numerical libraries, etc.);
  • Good knowledge of Optical remote sensing instruments and systems;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, needed for communicating with a wide range of people, both internally and externally.
  • Be collaborative and proactive, be able to team working, smart working and self motivated in autonomously defining and reaching their own tasks and project goals;
  • Willingness of filling their gaps and increase their knowledge and expertise;
  • English language (at least B2 level).

The following skills are not mandatory, but one or more of such skills are well appreciated:

  • Proven and well documented experience in one or more of the following application fields: atmospheric corrections, cloud detection/cover, image georeferencing/orthorectification, land cover, image classification, data fusion, vegetation indexes, target detection/recognition, change detection;
  • Practice in using atmospheric data (e.g. ECMWF meteo data, AERONET data, etc.) and models, radiative transfer SW models (e.g. modtran, 6s, actor, etc.);
  • Practice in using optical satellite based Earth Observation data products (e.g. Sentinel-2 MSI, SPOT, Landsat, Pleiades, Kompsat, Quickbird, Worldview, GeoEye, Modis, Meris, PRISMA, etc.);
  • Practice in using Aerial/Satellite SW tools (e.g. ENVI, SNAP, hdf viewers, Erdas, PCI geomatics, and similar), use of GIS SW tools (ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.);
  • Good software development skills (C/C++ or other OO languages);
  • Knowledge of Signal/Image data processing;
  • Good knowledge of ESA ECSS or other International QA/Space/Defence standards and engineering procedures;
  • Engineering procedures and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, ECLIPSE, redmine, Jira, etc.);
  • Proficiency in English (C level);
  • Excellent verbal communication and organization skills;
  • Proven record of relevant scientific papers and/or technical project documentation.

Education and experience:

  • Master Degree/PhD in relevant disciplines (Remote sensing, Physics, Mathematics, Geophysics, Electronic/Computer/Telecommunication/Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent scientific titles);
  • at least 3 years of relevant professional experience;
  • brilliant scholastic resume.
